Two Best Mates. One Extraordinary Challenge.

Two Best Mates to Take on the World’s Toughest Row in Support of LooseHeadz

Duncan and Daz, who first met through rugby, are set to take on the World’s Toughest Row in support of LooseHeadz – one of the most demanding endurance events on the planet.

The World’s Toughest Row is a 3,000-mile race across the Atlantic Ocean. Starting in the Canary Islands and finishing in Antigua, teams row for around 40–60 days, battling sleep deprivation, salt sores, extreme weather systems, and the physical and mental strain of life at sea. There is no support boat. No outside assistance. Just a small rowing vessel, open water, and the relentless rhythm of rowing in two-hour shifts, day and night. Eat, sleep, row, repeat.

It is widely regarded as one of the ultimate tests of human endurance.

But for Duncan and Daz, this challenge is about far more than crossing an ocean.

A Friendship Built Through Rugby

Their story began in the rugby community, at Cleverdon RFC in Warwickshire; a shared love of the game quickly formed a friendship. Rugby has always been about more than 80 minutes on a pitch. It is about belonging and having teammates beside you through both the highs and the tough days. That same spirit now drives them toward the Atlantic.

Rowing to Tackle the Stigma

By taking on the World’s Toughest Row, Duncan and Daz aim to raise vital funds and awareness for LooseHeadz, helping further our mission to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health in rugby and save lives.

Endurance events like this strip everything back. Fatigue, isolation and pressure leave nowhere to hide – and that honesty is part of why this challenge matters. They are using this platform to highlight the importance of checking in on your mates, building mental resilience, and creating environments where vulnerability is seen as strength, not weakness.

Over the next 12 months, LooseHeadz will follow their journey closely – from preparation and training through to race day and every mile rowed across the Atlantic. Our founders, Rob and Dave, will even be joining them for a training day later in the year.

Supporting the Challenge

Funds raised through this campaign will directly support LooseHeadz in continuing to provide life-changing and life-saving support, deliver mental health training to clubs, and ensure that no member of the rugby community faces a ‘life wobble’ alone.
