LooseHeadz launches Club Challenge to build rugby’s mental health team

We are launching our first-ever LooseHeadz Club Challenge – a new fundraising campaign designed to bring the rugby community together to tackle mental health.

We know that every rugby club relies on its community. And LooseHeadz does too.

This October, we’re calling on clubs across the country to get involved in our biggest grassroots fundraising challenge yet, with Meg Jones and Ugo Monye leading the charge as the faces of the campaign. There are even awards and prizes up for grabs!

The idea is simple: Help us, help you.

Every pound raised for LooseHeadz will help us continue providing vital mental health support. This support reaches rugby clubs and communities across the country through free resources and workshops and training more Mental Health Champions on the ground.

Because one in four people will experience a mental health problem, and every 44 seconds, someone dies by suicide worldwide.

That’s exactly why LooseHeadz exists: so nobody in rugby ever has to tackle mental health alone.

How does the Club Challenge work?

Clubs are asked to pledge their support during October, set a fundraising target and choose a challenge or event that works for their community.

It could be anything from a bake sale, boot camp, sponsored match or walk, to a quiz night – or something completely unique to your club.

And importantly, you don’t have to run your fundraiser in October.

Once your club has pledged its support, you’ll have until 31 December 2026 to complete your fundraising challenge, or challenges, and qualify for the Club Challenge prizes.

So whether you’ve got an October event already in the diary or want to take a little longer to plan something for November or December, there’s plenty of time to get your whole club and community involved.

Where will the money go?

Every pound raised will go towards helping LooseHeadz reach more people and provide more support across grassroots rugby, building rugby’s mental health team.

£21 | Help a club start the conversation
Provides a club with a pack of 9 A3 mental health signposting posters, helping players, coaches, volunteers and supporters know where to turn when they need support.

£75 | Put a Mental Health Champion in place
Onboards a Club Mental Health Champion, giving someone within a rugby club the knowledge and support to become a trusted person others can turn to.

£250 | Keep a Mental Health Champion supported
Provides ongoing support and training for a Club Mental Health Champion, helping them build their confidence, develop their skills and keep the conversation around mental health going to create a lasting impact.

£455 | Bring mental health support directly to a rugby club
Funds a full LooseHeadz mental health workshop, from planning and delivery through to follow-up support. Giving a club the opportunity to learn, talk and take practical steps towards better mental health.

£1,560 | Equip 20 people to take the conversation further
Funds a Train the Facilitator course for up to 20 people, giving them the skills and resources to deliver mental health workshops in rugby clubs across their communities helping to tackle the stigma nationally.

£7,470 | Create support that can reach rugby clubs everywhere
Funds the development of a brand-new online mental health training resource, helping us tackle specific challenges within rugby and give more people access to practical, relevant support wherever they are.

Your club’s challenge could help someone start a conversation, find support, or feel less alone. And that can make all the difference.

It’s about clubs supporting LooseHeadz, so LooseHeadz can continue supporting clubs.

A little friendly competition

This isn’t just about fundraising. It’s about bringing the rugby community together, and, naturally, there’ll be a bit of competition along the way.

Every participating club will be tracked on a live Club Challenge leaderboard, with weekly rankings shared across LooseHeadz’s digital and social channels. Think Top Gear-style rankings, but instead of racing cars, we’re racing to raise money and change lives.

There’ll also be spot prizes throughout the campaign, including recognition for the biggest fundraisers and some unique prizes for the most creative challenges.

And, of course, every club taking part in year one will earn the ultimate bragging rights as one of the founding clubs of what we hope becomes a permanent fixture in the rugby calendar.

Be part of year one

We want clubs from across the country to help us build something that can bring the grassroots game together year after year.

So, if your club is ready to get involved, pledge your support this October, set your fundraising target and start planning your challenge.

We’ll help you get set up with your own fundraising page and give you support to get your club community behind the cause.

You can then take on your challenge anytime between October and 31 December 2026 to qualify for the Club Challenge prizes.
