Taking Mental Health Workshops to Rugby Clubs Across England

Over the past few months, we’ve been visiting rugby clubs across England to fine-tune our adult mental health workshop – and it’s been both hugely impactful and a lot of fun!

Our workshop is designed for any adult involved with rugby clubs, and we’ve loved meeting players, chairs, coaches, medics, welfare leads, physios… the list goes on! Huw, the LooseHead (mental health champion) at Jersey RFC, said it was great to welcome LooseHeadz to the club and that they “found the workshop invaluable in giving us ideas on how to better support both our own and our friends’ mental health. The workshop has given us the tools to continue supporting the mental wellbeing of the wider rugby community across Jersey.”

John, who heads up the LooseHead role at East Dorset Dockers, said that the roskhop was useful in “getting honest conversations started and giving the club a solid platform to keep looking after each other on and off the pitch”

Next season, LooseHeadz will train volunteers nominated by their clubs to deliver this workshop locally, meaning the skills and resources we share will continue to spread throughout the rugby community.

Along the way, we’ve laughed, played games, had honest conversations, celebrated brilliant work already happening in clubs, and helped teams gain practical tools to check in on their members and provide appropriate support.

We’ve delivered workshops in Newbury, Leeds, Jersey, and Dorset, working with students, men’s, and women’s teams alike. We’ve even collaborated with Rugby Europe, delivering content to over 30 countries, sharing resources in five different languages, and celebrating good practice already happening across the continent.

We also launched our university module – a mix of psychoeducation and TikTok-style content – and we can’t wait to see it being used across the country this pre-season.

If you’d like to know more about how your club can become a LooseHead Club and run your own workshop next season, or if you’re part of a university club looking to embed mental health into your pre-season, get in touch:
