24/7’s: another world record attempt

Yes, you read that right. 24 hours of 7’s rugby. Another ambitious world record attempt that will see players push their limits over a full day of non-stop rugby – all to raise awareness and funds for LooseHeadz.

This July, LooseHeadz and Sandbach RUFC are bringing together players, officials, volunteers, and supporters for an unforgettable challenge that aims to rewrite the record books while strengthening the rugby community.

The Challenge

At 12pm on Friday 24th July, the whistle will blow and two marathon rugby matches will begin – and they won’t stop until after 12pm on Saturday.

Two games of 7s rugby will run simultaneously:

– One men’s match

– One women’s match

The goal? Play for longer than the current Guinness World Record of 24 hours and 30 minutes, set in 2017.

Each game will feature two teams of up to 12 players, using rolling substitutions to keep the action going throughout the entire attempt. Every match will follow official 7s rugby laws, ensuring the challenge remains a legitimate competitive contest, even as fatigue inevitably sets in.

We are proud to have the support of George Kruis, former England international and British & Irish Lion joining our men’s teams. His involvement highlights how important this cause is across all levels of the game. This is just the beginning – we’ll be announcing more big names supporting our challenge in the coming weeks!

Life on the Touchline

This is no ordinary rugby match – it’s a full endurance event.

To keep the games running continuously, everything players need will be provided pitchside – from tents to sleep in and physio support.

Players will remain within the pitch area throughout the attempt, creating a unique atmosphere where rugby, resilience, and teamwork combine around the clock.

The People Behind the Attempt

The 24/7s challenge will bring together an incredible community effort:

– 24 men and 24 women players taking on the marathon challenge

– Team managers managing the squads

– Match officials keeping the games running fairly

– Physios, first aiders, and volunteers ensuring players stay safe and supported

Participants aren’t just playing rugby – they’re fundraising for LooseHeadz, helping fund vital work supporting mental health across the rugby community.

A Rugby Festival for Everyone

While the games run, the event will also transform Sandbach RUFC into a vibrant rugby festival.

Supporters can expect:

– Music and DJs

– Food vendors

– Entertainment throughout the attempt

– Appearances from rugby legends and current players

The aim is to create an event where the entire community can come together to celebrate rugby and support an important cause.

There will also be a brunch for sponsors and local businesses, offering an opportunity to network, support the charity, and be part of a historic sporting moment.

The Final Whistle

When the record attempt finally comes to an end, the celebrations will begin.

Everyone involved – players, officials, volunteers, and organisers – will gather for a celebration, recognising the incredible effort that went into making the challenge possible.

Because 24/7’s isn’t just about breaking records.

It’s about community, endurance, and raising awareness around mental health in rugby.

Help us to #tacklethestigma this July, be part of something truly special.
