Team Mental Health

Team Mental Health is headed up by Dr Libby Artingstall and Dr Sile McDaid. Libby and Sile first met almost 20 years ago at Liverpool Medical School.

Dr Libby Artingstall and Dr Sile McDaid

After qualifying as medical doctors, they both realised their passions lay in mental health. 15 years later Libby was working as a consultant forensic psychiatrist and Sile a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist. After a significant period of time working in specialist mental health services, both found they were becoming disheartened as they watched the growing demand for care way exceeding capacity. They saw service users becoming increasingly frustrated by the service and great friends and colleagues becoming burned out.

Libby and Sile felt that something needed to change and started to think about how things could be done differently. Whilst acutely aware of how important it is to provide specialist support to those experiencing mental ill-health, they passionately believed that more had to be done to prevent mental illness and promote good mental health across communities at a grassroots level. That’s when the journey of Team Mental Health began.

Through their work in Team Mental Health, Libby and Sile want to ensure that people learn to value their mental health, as they do their physical health, and to empower everybody to look after and protect it. They hope to drive change by encouraging everyone to take proactive, preventative action so that the health and wellbeing of our communities can be improved. In doing so they believe we will see a shift away from the current high level of need for crisis and specialist interventions, which will ultimately have a positive impact for patients and professionals who work hard to support those in need across our communities.

At Team Mental Health, the focus is on raising awareness, reducing stigma and supporting the implementation of meaningful strategies to empower children, young people and adults of all ages to be their best. Libby and Sile work with schools, sports organisations and workplaces to ensure their message is delivered to everyone across our communities. There is no health without mental health.
