A Letter From The Founders - July 22

July marked our 5th birthday and as we look back on #5YearsOfLooseHeadz, we wanted to say thanks to YOU; our followers, our partner clubs, the rugby family. We’ve seen an incredible amount of support ever since that conversation at the end of the bar and we mean it when we say...we couldn’t do it without you!

One of our core values is the importance of community. It may have been the 3 of us that started LooseHeadz, but it’s not about us. We want LooseHeadz to represent everyone and the future will be dictated by you.

We’ve had a few ‘pinch yourself’ moments over the past 5 years so here’s a timeline of just a few of our major milestones. And here’s to many more!

Our most recent milestone was the launch of our brand new textline in association with Shout. To access the service, users simply need to text the word ‘rugby’ to 85258, and will receive a reply within minutes. The confidential service is completely free of charge and is anonymous for all users. We’ve always had a big focus on our 4 key pillars (Prevent, Promote, Educate, Signpost) however, we hope that with the introduction of our dedicated text service, we can go one step further to give people quick access to the support they need.

Both Dave and Rob took the plunge into working full time on LooseHeadz back in May. In all honesty, we had been at ‘tipping point’ for around a year but we owe our undivided attention to support the welfare of rugby players across the globe. We want to be Good Samaritans.

We have very ambitious plans and we believe we can take the sound and proven metrics, plus the track record of our 5-year growth to make a real difference in the world of mental fitness. We’ve already supported so many people but with extra backing we can do so much more, and that is why we are currently seeking funding and/or corporate sponsorship to take LooseHeadz to the next level. We’d welcome any conversations from those who would be interested in being part of this journey with us.

Now, onto rugby (obviously), and if you’re anything like us then you’ll be suffering from ‘rugby fever’ right now following the various summer tours. Oh, rugby is great, isn’t it!? With most people getting back into pre-season training down at their local rugby clubs, we want to put a big emphasis on mental health. Most clubs will have a big focus on physical fitness, but let’s make sure we all have a big focus on mental fitness too. To support clubs, we will be launching a ‘Get Season Ready’ campaign in the next couple of weeks so keep your eyes peeled.

A big focus for us right now is bridging the gap between ‘Who’, ‘What’, and ‘How’. Let us explain that…we know there’s a lot of people in the rugby community, perhaps even reading this, that are aware of who we are, but we want to ensure that everyone knows what we do and how you get involved. Whilst you might see the likes of Manu Tuilagi and Rocky Clark wearing the posts with pride, the wider mission is to place a mental health lead (a ‘LooseHead’) at every rugby club in the world. We then provide each partner club with a free toolkit of resources to support players and their mental fitness. We want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved and be a part of the LooseHeadz family.

Onto the fun stuff. We’re currently on the hunt for keen rugby players and rugby clubs that would like to produce content for the LooseHeadz social accounts. Please get in touch if you are interested in creating rugby or mental health related content.

STASH! Everybody loves stash, especially rugby players. And it’s new stash season. We want to make sure that you’re all aware that we can now provide you with co-branded tees, hoodies, and polos. Please send us an email to request more information and we can provide you with a mock-up.

And finally…over the last couple of weeks, we’ve lined up some exciting plans with Premiership Rugby, Mental Health Foundation, and the RFU. Plus, we have a few ambassador announcements incoming so keep an eye out.

As ever, thanks, and go safe!

Rob, Dave, Mark.
